Stephen "Spike" Perkins
Graduated Carnegie-Mellon University, 1977, with B.A. in Creative Writing. Resided in New Orleans since December, 1982. Published in the Times-Picayune, Offbeat, and Cast and Crew, as well as the Austin Chronicle, (Austin, Texas) and Option, a California-based music magazine with a national circulation. Read poetry periodically at the Maple Leaf, had a poem included in The Maple Leaf Rag 15th Anniversary Anthology, (1994, Portals Press) Compliled and wrote "Music Makers," a major part of the official program of the New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival, 1998 and 1999. Worked as an electric bassist with artists including New Orleans Blues Department, the Iguanas, Snooks Eaglin, Rockin' Dopsie, Lynn August, Sherman Robertson, Metropolis Jazz Ensemble, and Coco Robicheaux. Bass and songwriting credits on Coco Robicheax's Spiritland CD. Currently appearing regularly with Pagan Radio, Spike and the Pit Bulls, Norbert Slama, Jerry Jumonville and other artists. |
